48 Hours in Bingen, Washington: Summer Edition

Small town. Big adventures. Endless Gorge views.

Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, a weekend with friends, or checking the Columbia River Gorge off your bucket list, Bingen is the perfect home base for exploring one of the Pacific Northwest’s most beautiful destinations.

From scenic hikes and waterfront parks to local wine, delicious food, and charming shops, here’s how to spend the perfect 48 hours in Bingen this summer.

Day One

Start Your Morning

Begin your day with coffee from Uplifted Drive-Thru, then ease into the morning with breakfast at Carmen’s Kitchen or grab a hearty breakfast burrito from El Rinconcito before setting out for the day.

Choose Your Adventure

Start with the big decision of the day–mountain or river?

If you’re up for a classic Gorge challenge, hike Dog Mountain, one of the most iconic trails in the Columbia River Gorge. The climb is steep, but the views at the top are unforgettable.

Prefer something more relaxed? Head to Sailboard Park, a 175-acre waterfront park along the Columbia River. With wide-open green space, picnic areas, and calm access to the water, it’s a favorite for paddleboarding, sun-soaked lounging, and slow summer afternoons.

Be sure to grab a sandwich from Dickey’s Farms before heading out!

Explore Downtown Bingen

After your adventure, head back into town and spend the afternoon exploring downtown Bingen.

Wander through locally owned shops, antique stores, and artisan boutiques filled with one-of-a-kind finds, handcrafted goods, and outdoor gear.

Be sure to stop into:

  • Antiques & Oddities
  • Pucker Huddle Goods
  • Kingsley Supply Co.
  • Sun, Sun & Moon
  • Mountain Highway

Stay the Night

As the afternoon winds down, check into your home for the night.

Choose from the modern comfort and spa amenities of The Society Hotel, the laid-back outdoor experience at Gorge Basecamp, or one of Bingen’s many cozy vacation rentals.

Evening in Bingen

As the sun begins to fade behind the Gorge, settle into the relaxed rhythm of Bingen’s evening scene.

Head into town for dinner, where you’ll find something for every craving:

  • El Valle or Ayutlense for tacos and bold flavors
  • Lampoei Thai Food Truck for fresh, flavorful Thai dishes
  • Murphy’s for classic burgers and comfort food

After dinner, check out what’s happening at the Bingen Theater, the Gorge’s intimate performing arts venue. From live music and community productions to film screenings and special events, it’s a great place to catch a local show and experience the creative heartbeat of the valley. Then slow things down with a visit to The Society Hotel Spa, where you can soak, unwind, and fully sink into the calm of the Gorge.

Back in the lobby, enjoy a nightcap or light snack at the cafe, while the evening settles in. In summer, the hotel often hosts movie nights, karaoke, yoga sessions, and community events that bring a warm, social energy to the end of the day.

Day Two

Slow Morning

Let the second day unfold a little slower.

Start with a refreshing smoothie, fresh juice, or acai bowl from Sunrise Juice—a light, energizing way to ease into another Gorge-filled day.

Take your time this morning. Watch the town wake up, linger over your drink, and enjoy the unhurried pace that makes this corner of the world feel like a reset button.

Feeling energetic? Take a class at nearby NK Studios, and warm up your body for the day’s activities.

Scenic Drive & Gorge Views

Head out along Highway 14, also known as the Lewis and Clark Scenic Byway, where every curve opens to sweeping Columbia River views.

Make your first stop at Confluence Café, perched above the water. Grab specialty coffee, tea, or lunch and settle onto the deck overlooking the river. On windy days, you’ll catch the kiteboarders putting on a show!

Hit the Trail

From here, choose your next Gorge adventure.

Each hike offers its own version of dramatic beauty:

  • Catherine Creek for wildflowers, rolling hills, and expansive river views
  • Syncline for a heart-pumping climb with sweeping ridge lines
  • Coyote Wall for golden bluffs and unforgettable overlooks

No matter the trail, expect wide skies, wind-carved cliffs, and that signature Gorge feeling—big, open, and alive.

Wine Tasting Break

After your hike, reward yourself with a well-earned tasting at one of the nearby wineries.

Settle into:

  • Syncline Winery
  • COR Cellars
  • Domaine Pouillon Wine Bistro

This stretch of the Gorge is known for its laid-back elegance—where glasses are filled slowly, conversations linger, and the landscape does most of the talking.

In summer, you’ll often find pop-up food trucks, live music, and small artisan gatherings tucked between vineyards and tasting patios.  Don’t miss Frenchs Farm after wine in downtown Lyle for the famous home-made ice cream cones!

Explore Neighboring White Salmon

Before heading back, make your way just up the hill to White Salmon, a small town with a big creative pulse.

Spend the late afternoon exploring its mix of wine, food, shopping, and gathering spaces:

  • Have a bite and sip wine on the patio at Soča Wine Shop
  • Taste local wines at Ridge of Wonders, Clyzm Wines and Le Doubblé Troubblé
  • Enjoy a pint and upscale pub food with sweeping views at Everybody’s Brewing
  • Sit down for a memorable meal at Henni’s Kitchen + Bar, Feast Market or the vibrant flavors of Pixán Taqueria & Cantina
  • Grab a cone or espresso from Cool Beans Ice Cream Shop
  • Stop into Gander & Goose or TarWater Tavern for a cocktail
  • Wander through Marcel, a beautifully curated secondhand shop filled with vintage clothing, furniture, and design treasures

White Salmon is the kind of place where plans soften—where “just stopping in” turns into staying longer than you meant to.

One Last Wander

As the day winds down, take a slow loop back through Bingen.

Pick up anything you missed, stroll past the beautiful murals, or pause near the train tracks as the Columbia River Gorge hums in the background.

If time allows, consider one last visit to The Society Hotel Spa for a final soak before heading home. Let the heat, water, and stillness close out your weekend properly.

Your Summer Starts Here

Two days in Bingen and White Salmon feel like more than a getaway—they feel like a reset stitched together with river light, mountain air, and small-town warmth.

From sunrise coffee to cliffside hikes, from wine country afternoons to spa-lit evenings, every moment invites you to slow down and stay a little longer than planned.

Come for the views. Stay for the experience. Return for the memories.
