- Coyote Wall Recreation Area (AKA Syncline) – Just minutes from Bingen, this area boasts more than 30 miles of trails with spectacular views of the Columbia River and Mt Hood. Trails include: Bitterroot Trail, Coyote Wall Trail, Labyrinth Trail, Little Maui Trail, Little Moab Trail, Old Ranch Road Trail, Raptor Trail, Upper Labyrinth Trail.
- Catherine Creek Recreation Area (7 miles east of Bingen)– Known for its accessible interpretive trail, views, and blooms. Choose from the 1.9 accessible paved interpretive trail or 2.5 – 30+ miles of trails on the Bitterroot Trail, which eventually connects to the Coyote Wall Recreation Area.
- Dog Mountain (14 miles west of Bingen) – A challenging but rewarding hike, famous for its golden balsamroot fields in late spring. Also, a great training hike to get ready for summer backpacking. The views at Puppy Point and to the top are world-class.
- Panther Creek Falls – A short but steep hike 34 miles west of Bingen, leading to a breathtaking multi-streamed waterfall.
- Falls Creek Falls – A moderately easy 6-mile trek 38 miles west of Bingen with a stunning three-tiered waterfall plunging over 200 feet.
- Hamilton Mountain Trail (Beacon Rock State Park) – Offers sweeping views of The Gorge along with the stunning Rodney Falls – 32 miles west of Bingen.
- Sleeping Beauty – 2.6-mile out-and-back 35 miles north of Bingen in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
- Lower Lewis River Falls – A scenic cascade nestled in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Visitors who park in the Lewis River Recreation Area will need a permit from June 15 to September 2. - Hospital Hill — A local favorite with technical climbs, forested descents, and open meadows. Trails are on private land, so be respectful and check for seasonal closures.
- Buck Creek Trails — Family-friendly loops and intermediate singletrack in a forested setting that is still being developed.
- Falls Creek Trail — A classic point-to-point ride (about 30 miles) through old-growth forest with epic flow and natural features.

Lyle Sandbar –
Location: Near Lyle, WA
Best For: Beginner to intermediate kiteboarders
Features: Shallow water, wide open spaces, and consistent winds make this sandbar ideal for learning and practicing kiteboarding. It’s a dedicated kiting area; windsurfing is not recommended here.
Spring Creek Hatchery State Park (“The Hatch”)
Location: Skamania County, WA
Best For: Advanced kiteboarders
Features: Known for strong winds and rough water conditions, this spot is suited for experienced riders seeking a challenge.

Swell City
Location: 6.5 miles west of Bingen
Best For: Advanced windsurufers
Features: Strong westerly winds and large swells.
Cheap Beach
Location: 9 miles west of Bingen
Best For: Advanced windsurfers
Features: Classic Gorge wind conditions with fewer crowds than other hotspots.
Doug’s Beach State Park
Location: Near Lyle, WA (13 miles east of Bingen)
Best For: Intermediate to advanced windsurfers
Features: Offers large swells and medium to strong winds, making it a legendary spot for windsurfing enthusiasts.
The Hatchery (Spring Creek Hatchery State Park)
Location: 6 miles west of White Salmon
Best For: Advanced windsurfers
Features: This popular site features short swells and strong winds, attracting pros and aspiring pros for freestyle moves and air tricks.
Bingen Marina
Location: Bingen, WA
Best For: Intermediate windsurfers
Features: Offers flat water with small chop, making it a mellow and uncrowded site. Be mindful of wind shadows close to shore and barge traffic.
