The Hive: Reviving a Klickitat Classic with Pizza, Empanadas, and Community
When the doors of The Hive opened in Klickitat, they didn’t just reveal a new restaurant. They reopened a familiar chapter of local history, now rewritten with Argentine roots, wood-fired pizza, and an open invitation to gather.

The owner first discovered the old tavern space almost by accident. From the start, it felt full of possibility. Conversations with locals confirmed what the walls already seemed to know. This place mattered. With years of experience in the restaurant industry and a long-held dream of owning a business, the timing felt right. A fair agreement with the building’s owners allowed the space to be thoughtfully restored rather than rushed, honoring its past while preparing it for a new future.
That history still hums through the room. For many in Klickitat, the tavern holds warm memories, and preserving that sense of nostalgia was essential. The goal was never to erase what came before, but to let it shine through something new. Restoration was extensive, from repairs to deep cleaning, yet the vintage character was intentionally left intact. The result is a space that feels familiar and refreshed all at once.
From the moment guests walk through the door, the hope is simple. That they feel safe, welcomed, and part of something genuine. The Hive is meant to feel like a shared table, a place for good food, friendly games, and easy conversation.
The menu reflects that same spirit of togetherness. Pizza and Argentinian empanadas are more than just offerings. They are a memory. Growing up in Argentina, Friday nights meant friends gathered around a few pizzas, empanadas, and cold beer. Bringing that tradition to Klickitat is a way of sharing home.
While every dish is close to the heart, the dessert holds special pride. A classic Argentinian flan with dulce de leche anchors the menu with sweetness and nostalgia. One bite has a way of transporting you thousands of miles south.
Sourcing ingredients hasn’t been simple in such a remote location. For now, The Hive works with a mix of nationwide vendors and imported Argentinian ingredients, with plans to move toward more local sourcing over time. The recipes themselves remain a family secret, passed down and protected.
Games play a central role in the atmosphere. Pool tables, darts, and more are all free. The intention is to remove pressure and create a place where people can relax without obligation. That freedom naturally builds community. People linger, laugh, and eventually return together to eat and drink.
Looking ahead, events and themed nights are part of the vision. From tournaments to sponsoring county activities, The Hive aims to stay actively connected to the rhythms of local life.
The space itself helps balance its dual identity. As the sun sets, families wrap up dinner while the social crowd begins to arrive. Two connected rooms, one for dining and one for the bar, allow guests to move easily between a relaxed meal and an evening hangout.
Being in Klickitat has shaped everything. The town welcomed this project wholeheartedly, and in many ways, it feels like the community and the restaurant found each other at the right moment. A place to connect was needed, and now it’s here.
The biggest surprise so far has been the generosity of the people. Support, encouragement, and offers of help came freely. The biggest challenge has been understanding just how complex and time-consuming opening a small business can be.
At the heart of it all is the two-level stone pizza oven. It’s the soul of the restaurant. Every time it’s fired up and the lights come on, it’s a reminder that this dream is real.
The first year is focused on finding rhythm and stability, refining the menu, and building consistency. Beyond that, the future belongs to the people of Klickitat. The Hive will grow alongside the community that fills it.
As a final note, giving back is part of the mission. As a first responder, the owner proudly offers a standing discount to Fire, EMS, and Law personnel as a small thank-you to those who serve the community every day.
